Kian's ArtQuest - Malaysian Artists Revealed (Kuantan)

My journey to Kuantan
was a great challenge on
my Toyota HiLux 4X4.
It was raining and traffic
and road condition was
terrible...street light not
bright enough. I drove
over many pot holes...
just terrible!!
WOW! this mosque is
awesome to view at night.
I'm sure tourist will be amaze by the sight of this beautiful mosque

 Arrived in Kuantan around
1am, had some difficulty
locating the hotel
(wanted to stay at the one
which was located beside
the art gallery). Somehow
I'm confused Evergreen Hotel
(in Penang) for
                                                       Green Leaf Hotel.

Too bad my writer can't drive
but I should give myself
a pat on the back for getting
both of us safely to our
destination. Hope my snoring
won't cause my writer
to have a sleepless night...

After freshening up, we headed to East Coast Mall,
"The Most Happening Place" - according to it's slogan anyways.
Wanted to go to Starbucks to have lunch, but when asked about
what kind of food they served for lunch, the barista pointed at
the pasteries and I could already see the horror on my writer's face
as he muttered under his breath, "That won't fill me up."

After lunch we headed to the art gallery to conduct the interviews.
An interesting group of people according to my writer and
before we knew it, we were jetting off to our next destination
- Kota Bahru.

Kian's ArtQuest - Malaysian Artists Revealed (Johor)

We arrived in Johor later
afternoon, en route I called
to confirm accommodation
for our night there and
unfortunately it was fully
booked. After lunch
we went in search
of accommodation
for the night...
took us awhile before
settling at
New York Hotel...
maybe it was fate
that brought us here,
after all my writer
lived in New York
for the past 7 years.
The next day we
headed off to do
the interviews
with the local artist.
Everything was
running smoothly...

Taib Razak (artist)
sketched a pic of me
and hold a "presentation"
ceremony while waiting
for his turn to be interview

and we were
able to finish
in time
before
driving off to Kuantan.

Kian's ArtQuest - Malaysian Artists Revealed (Malacca)

My journey in search of artists
have brought me to the historical
city of Malacca. My writer was
once again late so I decided to
count the dim sums at the
coffee shop, they are
seriously raking in the cash.

Our journey was plagued
by miscommunication
which resulted
 in the writer not
 bringing enough
 clothing
 (or more specifically underwear).
 Wonder how he will ration
his clothing for the next few days...
BTW, disposable underwear
 and shower cap look alike!
 Anyways the first time
we came here, I wanted
to take him to my
 favorite laksa stall,
 unfortunately it
 was not open.
 However this time around
 he get to eat laksa!

After that, we were off to
do my magazine delivery rounds.
First stop was
Martin Wood's Art Gallery.

Martin and his wife

After that was
Park Soo Bin's Gallery,
had a nice chit chat with Han,
her friend who just recently
retired from KBS broadcasting
industry. After a few
more deliveries it was
time to head to Johor.

Kian's ArtQuest Malaysian Artists Revealed (Klang Artists Society)

Tsai Chen Yin (Taiwan) & Kally Liew, a couple artist visits me at my art gallery. Chit chatted about pcA4artmalaysia.

This is the first time the writer will be visiting my art gallery, hope he's excited.  I'll introduce him to another writer of mine, Jane. Would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jane for the CD for my road trip.

By the time we reached the toll, I realized that I did not bring the allocated money that I had prepared for our Klang trip. However, one cannot go to Klang and not experience the wonders of Bak Kut Teh. My writer said we could eat something else, but then it would be like going to McDonald's and eating chicken rice (which does not exist, but I hope you get my point).

Reaching there, we hit another bump (not a road bump but a Bak Kut Teh bump), the stall that I frequently visit did not open.

Sigh...the agony...

"Look!" shouted my ever observant writer.

It was a Bak Kut Teh stall, right next to the one that was closed. Finally, our luck had changed, the day was not a loss after all

After that we headed to the Klang Artist Society for interviews, they came well prepared which of course made the writer happy. Speaking of the writer, am very happy with his performance, even the Klang artists praised him for his language skills (interviewing in Chinese but writing in English)...should give him a raise.

All in all, a productive day. Stay tuned folks, for the next misadventure of Kian.

Both the writer and I are disgrace to the Chinese community...wonder what it means...
